Armenian-style font Lavash
Lavash is a font in Armenian style. The font includes Latin and Cyrillic characters, numbers, several basic punctuation marks and mathematical symbols.
Lavash was created on the base of a lettering randomly found by the request in Google: “Armenian-style font”. Author is not aware of any other stylizations of the Armenian alphabet. It looks like Lavash is the only typeface of its kind.
Most characters are drawn from the found lettering. Some have been slightly changed for better adaptation to the digital font.
Armenian characters are distinguished by rounded shapes and long main strokes. To a person who does not know the Armenian alphabet, these character may seem to be a set of pipes bent in different shapes.
Thanks to such a simple form and kinship with Cyrillic alphabet, it is quite easy to make an Armenian-style font. Unlike, for example, from the Arabic script, where each letter has to be drawn practically from scratch, in the Armenian alphabet forms often repeat. There are no ligatures in the font: the typeface is too simple to build them, as well as for kerning pairs.
On the contrary, some letters are made in two versions: basic and simplified, due to the specific shape of the original.
Lavash conveys the flavor of Armenian letters. The elongated, rounded forms of the font evoke a clear association with Armenia.
Lavash is perfect for decorative tasks. The font fits perfectly for Soviet-style posters and vintage postcards.
All headings in my stories about Armenia are made with Lavash.
Lavash is free to use for any purpose, including commercial.
